So you have decided to stop smoking. Congratulations! You have taken the first step on the road to a longer, healthier, wealthier life.

The next few weeks and months will not be easy. Remember, smoking is an addiction and however long you have been smoking it will be a hard habit to break. The good news is that there is loads of stop smoking help out there. You do not have to do it alone, although ultimately, the decision and the way you do it is up to you. Whichever way you decide to go, you must really want to give up to suceed.

For those trying to give up smoking for the first time, going cold turkey is by far the preferred option. However, if you fail, then this will put you off trying again to quit, and it is probably the most difficult route. However, persevere. Your next attempt may be the one that is successful, no matter how many times you have tried in the past, keep trying.

Whichever method you you to give up smoking,there is one component that must be there in order to succeed. You must really want to stop smoking. You will not succeed without that strong desire to give up smoking.There are however, one or two things which you may find that will help.

Break the habit of smoking. If you always have a cigarette after a meal, then replace it with something else. For those of us with a weight problem, chocolates are not a good option. Try a cup of tea or a drink of water – or even clearing the table and washing up! The same thing applies to last thing at night or first thing in the morning. These are the danger times, so keep your hands – and mind- busy so that you do not miss it so much. A drink of cold water first thing in the morning and last thing at night is really god for you. It helps remove toxins from your body and helps your kidneys to function better.

Using quitting smoking hypnosis can be a good way to ease the challenge of becoming smoke free. Despite common misconceptions about hypnosis, it is a useful method.

If you’re interested in hypnosis, you can use either self-hypnosis or seek help from a therapist.  Treatment with a therapist can be either one-on-one or with a group. Some therapists travel and hold sessions in rather large meeting halls. One advantage of group sessions is that they are less expensive than having individual sessions.

I am a big fan of using hypnosis as part of a quitting smoking plan, but I don’t think hypnosis alone is going to be successful in helping people stop completely. In other words, I don’t think it is realistic to think that going to a stop smoking hypnosis seminar or buying a hypnosis CD will be enough to free you from the smoking habit by itself.

It’s very difficult for some people to understand, but the health effects of smoking touch more than just your lungs alone.  While many still connect lung cancer with smoking, they are often uneducated about the dangers of smoking and how completely destructive smoking can be to your health.
